Sermon Series from the Book of Philippians: Joy Unchained
#2 “We Suffer Together”
Philippians 1:12-30
Paul continues his letter with an update on his situation to the believers in Philippi and how they are connected through suffering.
- Christians get the GIFT of SUFFERING! (v.29-30)
- Paul’s imprisonment could have stopped the work for Christ; instead it fueled it forward. (v.12)
- The result of Paul’s suffering was… (v.13-14)
(1) Get to share Christ with people I wouldn’t have otherwise
(2) Gave courage to others who heard my story
- Different people have different motives for the gospel (v.15-17)
- There’s joy knowing God is working even through bad people. (v.18-19)
- KEY VERSE (v.21) - “My Life Is Jesus”
- Living or Dead: It’s a Win-Win for Christians (v.22-26)
- Unity in Jesus is where we find strength to handle opposition. (v.27-28)
- NOW we can accept the GIFT of SUFFERING. (v.29-30)
Why do we run so hard from the trials of life when they are actually what can bind us together with one another and with Christ?
